Back-Up Ring is the pressure seal
TECHNICAL DRAWING
The retaining ring is a supplement to the pressure seal (O-ring), which is not a seal itself. The main reason for using the retaining ring is to reduce the gap on the low pressure side of the O-ring and similar seals. The structure of the O-ring and retaining ring is under much greater pressure than the use of the O-ring alone. The retaining ring is moulded into an uninterrupted ring with high hardness rubber material, which is easy to assemble by stretching. Because the retaining ring is neither cut nor spiral, it will not cause local damage to the O-ring. Other types of retaining rings do not have this feature.
The experimental results show that the retainer ring has longer service life and higher reliability than the retainer ring of the modified type, and the working pressure range of the O-ring is expanded.
